Underwriter or Senior Commercial Underwriter– Surety & Fidelity

Seattle, WA / Portland, OR / Pacific Northwest- REMOTE

CapSpecialty seeks a dynamic, versatile individual to add to its experienced, team-oriented staff. This individual will be responsible for generating profitable Commercial Surety & Fidelity Business by managing Book of Business through underwriting assigned territory building working relationships with agents and co-workers; and by participating in account underwriting and manager's meetings

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 years direct underwriting experience (2 to 3 years experience for the Underwriting role).
  • Completed or working towards an Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) designation.

 

Essential skills:

 

  • Knowledge of bonds, procedures, and rates as well as knowledge of specified territory including agency plant, accounts, and competition and general business climate. Working knowledge of CapSpecialty's reinsurance treaty (ies) and limitations. 
  • Technically competent in all standard business software applications, including MS Office.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate in a team environment, while working independently.
  • Advanced ability to analyze all facets of a financial statement and tie together all statements including the statement notes. (General knowlege of financial statements preferred for Underwriting role). 
  • Advanced knowledge on how to apply both vertical and horizontal financial trending (i.e. liquidity, profitability, and debt coverage ratios, etc.) to forecast the future impact the financial results will have on any account within its industry. (Not required but some knowlege preferred for the Underwriter role).
  • Ability to analyze and demonstrate thorough understanding of credit as it relates to the risk.
