Director Business Intelligence and Analytics

CapSpecialty seeks a Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics. This individual will be responsible for providing actionable analytics and data assets to enable analytic functions for multiple business units across CapSpecialty; taking a high-level business vision and translating it into a clearly defined analytic strategy. The analytic strategy will encompass all aspects of creating excellence in a core business capability including end-state systems, team structure, planning and execution, and adoption of best practices.  

The Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics will collaborate closely with senior leadership, business partners, technology leads, architects, and other business intelligence professionals in support of building the business intelligence and analytics capability as well as executing on business initiatives. Building the capability may include the delivery and adoption of advanced analytical models, ensuring data quality, enabling dynamic dashboards and self-service. In addition, the Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics will be responsible for ensuring systems meet or exceed SLAs, production support/maintenance activities, and managing vendor relationships.

 REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess broad conceptual understanding of capabilities and direction of technology, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the technology required and the needs of business environment necessary to support assigned projects.
  • Maintain partnerships across the organization, lead organizational change, is able to influence senior management, peers and staff through an inclusive style and recognition of their abilities to achieve results.
  • Understand, on an in-depth basis, staff roles and abilities and provides input regarding their development needs.
  • Adapt and interpret established policies and procedures. 
  • Perform advanced analysis
  • Capable of making decisions and communicating them verbally and in writing.
  • Snowflake or other Cloud data warehousing technologies
  • Amazon Web Services such as EC2, S3, DMS and QuickSight
  • Power BI
  • Logical, access and physical data modeling

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 7+ years related experience (e.g., ETL development, data warehousing, or analytical reporting)
  • 3+ years of experience in enterprise or information/data architecture is preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience managing and leading others
  • 3+ years' experience with Project Management
  • Prior experience in strategy development and leading implementation
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree preferred
  • Prior experience within the insurance industry is desired

Management and leadership of team members in area of responsibility. Recruit, hire, develop, train, and manage the performance of staff in both the technical duties and professional aspects of their performance.
